TorMX is a system to allow pseudonymous email communication between peers, while protecting theirs and the email servers' physical locations. This protects mailbox content and communication records against unwanted access, and thus keeps users' identity and privacy safe. While one can already use standard email clients to reach servers behind Tor hidden services, TorMX adds the missing bits to make it usable: easy-to-remember email addresses and easy two-way communication with non-hidden email servers.
Having privacy-sensitive communication relying on random operators is quite undesirable; moreover, even service providers committed to privacy are now subject to developing data retention laws. Therefore TorMX also aims to make anyone able to run a hidden email server.
Currently in the early stages, work is in progress on the specification and initial implementation.
